Katrien has been working as a communication professional since 2016. She has experience in communicating complex, scientific topics to a broader audience and works throughout the whole communication cycle: from developing campaigns and long-term strategies, over the concrete translation of such strategies into appealing communication materials, to the evaluation of online and offline communication activities. She also has hands-on experience in copywriting, web management, video production, social media, events, and web and social analytics.
Katrien acts as a project manager for large-scale communication projects and stakeholder engagement campaigns. She now mostly works on projects about climate change mitigation and adaptation as well as circular economy, both at the European and local levels. Most recently, she developed and implemented a 6-month campaign for the EEA and Norway Grants and led the outreach activities for two Horizon 2020 projects. She currently provides strategic branding and communication input for the European Commission’s Intelligent Cities Challenge and coordinates the communication team for DG Grow’s CircLean Industrial Symbiosis project. She is also a driving force behind Arctik’s approach to campaign reporting and visualisation.
Katrien holds a BA in English and French as well as an MA in Western Literature from KU Leuven, University of Leuven. She also obtained an MA in Critical Theory from the University of Nottingham. Before joining Arctik, Katrien taught business communication at KU Leuven, University of Leuven. She continues to act as a guest lecturer, both at KU Leuven and at the Brussels-based IHECS Academy. Katrien has native-level proficiency in Dutch and English, is fluent in French and has a limited professional knowledge of German.
