Luca Neuperti is a Research Assistant at Technopolis Germany in Frankfurt. He is particularly interested in the intersection of emerging technology and society.

He has studied the emergence of new technologies, social understandings of technology and data privacy and discrimination in (generative) AI. Luca has undertaken research using quantitative methods (e,g, Natural Language Processing (NLP), Sentiment Analysis), qualitative approaches (e.g. Ethnographic Participatory Observation, Grounded Theory), as well as mixed-methods research.

At Technopolis, Luca presently works on an exploratory study on innovation in higher education for the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft as well as an evaluation of the German funding programme ErUM (Exploration of universe and matter) supporting physics research.

Luca holds two bachelor’s degrees, one in sociology (minoring in political science) and one in computer science. Since many grand challenges appear to possess a technological as well as a social dimension, Luca has focused his academic engagements on the intersection between the two. His computer science thesis explores the ability of Large Language Model (LLM) chatbots to socially accommodate to an interlocutor. Meanwhile, his thesis in sociology examines the social construction and negotiation of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs). Outside of his studies, Luca co-initiated and implemented an interdisciplinary scientific conference on data privacy for the German Academic Scholarship Foundation, involving experts and scholars. With a passion for Science Communication, he regularly engages in Science Slams. He speaks German natively, English proficiently (C2) as well as Spanish and Korean in a lower-intermediate level.
