Yari Borbon is Senior Consultant on Industrial Policies and Advanced Technologies at the Brussels Office. Yari has developed expertise in Industrial Policies and Advanced Technologies and solutions with recent interest in digital and green transition policies. He has contributed to proposals, studies, policies reviews, and coordination actions at local, regional, national and international levels. He has applied and taught master and PhD levels quantitative methods, as well as qualitative and mixed methods such as interviews, sampling and survey design, case studies, desk research, literature reviews, benchmarking studies, technological and policy roadmaps, Qualitative Comparative Analysis, Fuzzy Logic.

Recently Yari contributed to the cost impact assessment of the study supporting the impact assessment of legislation for plants produced by certain new genomic techniques conducted on behalf of DG SANTE. He contributes to monitoring the performance of EU industry and industrial ecosystems in terms of green and digital transitions, on behalf of DG GROW and EISMEA. Yari also supports the management of the Regional Smart Specialisation Community of Practice by coordinating the Industrial Transition Working Group on behalf of DG REGIO.

Prior to joining Technopolis Group, Jon worked for SPRU, University of Sussex, UK, on Research & Innovation Policies analysis and support, he also worked for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Spain (ZLC) on regional clusters Innovation policy support actions, and on corporate resilience, sustainability, and digitalization strategies. He also worked for University of Antwerp, Belgium, on transport and regional development. He worked at LIUC Universita’ Cattaneo, Italy, he developed composite indicators and tools for measuring the resilience and social and environmental sustainability of firms. He also gained experience in Mexico on regional development and value chain upgrading strategies and policies. He also gained experience at the Americal Trucking Association on international regulatory policies.

Yari has a background in Economics from Universidad de Sonora, Mexico; He has a master in social sciences at El Colegio de Sonora, Mexico; and a PhD in Science and Technology Policy Studies awarded by University of Sussex, UK. He is originally from Mexico, lived in the UK, Spain, Italy and Belgium. He is native spanish speaker, and fluent in English and Italian.

  • Support to the management of the Smart Specialisation Community of Practice. Project for DG REGIO 2022-2025 (Ongoing). Industrial Transition Work Group Leader.
  • Study supporting the impact assessment of legislation for plants produced by certain new genomic techniques (Ongoing). Project for DG SANTE 2022-2023. Cost Impact Assessment Expert.
  • Monitoring the performance of EU industry and industrial ecosystems. Project for DG GROW and EISMEA (ongoing) 2022-2023. Monitoring the digital and green transition the Aerospace and Defence, and the Renewable Energy Industrial Ecosystems.
