Michael Schidlack

Michael has extensive and well-founded know-how in digital products and digitization in general, especially in the fields of IoT, smart home, consumer electronics, and digital media. He has over 30 years of management experience and a wide business network since he has been working as a freelance entrepreneur, board member or/and managing director in various profit and non-profit organisations, associations, industry, retail and consultancy.

Clients from Michaels Consulting Career from 2002 to 2007 included stock listed companies in the airline and automotive sectors. During his time at BITKOM, Michael was the author and co-author of numerous studies and publications, and responsible for Public Affairs, the press output of the association in the field of consumer electronics, smart home and digital media. Under his leadership, the topic Smart Home was positioned at the IT summit of the Federal Government. 2010 he initiated the “ConLife” trade fair in cooperation with Koelnmesse under the patronage of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy, the largest Smart Living event in Germany for many years with more than 100 speakers. For his engagement for the Smart Home Industry he got the “ConnecTED” Honorary Award in 2013. After moving to digitalSTROM AG in 2014, a Swiss company in the smart home industry, his professional achievements included implementing an innovative distribution system, as well as a network with global players to build up a platform for devices that communicate with each other via the classical power line instead of using wireless protocols.

After studying business administration Michael started in 1987 his own electronics retail business and finally, built up a company with 65 employees until 2002. During that period Michael had several board positions, for example in the Federal Association for Technology (Cologne), the German Video Institute (Berlin / Hamburg), as a member of the Delegates of the IHK Bielefeld and in the IT association Comteam (Lilienthal), and in the retail board of T-Mobile. In addition, he was nominated for the European Advisory Board of Nokia and committees of the Expert AG.

From 2002, he worked as a Senior-Consultant at the BBE Retail Experts GmbH in Cologne / Hamburg and advised market-leading and stock market-listed companies. Additionally, he took cover consulting projects for ministries and associations. From 2007 until May 2014, he was Head of Department Consumer Electronics, Digital Media and Digital Home at the Federal Association for Information Technology, Telecommunications and New Media (BITKOM). From 2014 until 2018 he became a member of the board of the Smart Home Company as Chief Strategy Officer at digitalSTROM AG, Zürich, Switzerland and was responsible for the global expansion and partnering strategy.

Michael obtained his diploma in economics from the Julius-Maximilians-University Würzburg (Bavaria). He is fluent in German and English.
