Annika Kossack is a Consultant at Technopolis Group with expertise in the implementation and management of European business and R & I projects in the areas of SME competitiveness, research and innovation (COSME, H2020). 

She is currently the deputy project manager of the “Knowledge ecosystems in the new European Research Area (ERA)”. The study contributes to the implementation of the ERA Communication by providing a comprehensive analysis of the state of play, the design of monitoring mechanisms, and the creation of a toolbox of support measures. In the upcoming months she will also work on the H2020 IntelComp project aimed at building an innovative Cloud Platform that will offer AI-based services to public administrators and policy makers across Europe for data-and evidence-driven STI policy design and implementation.

She frequently supports the work of the Emerging Markets team, lately assisting in setting up a survey and conducting desk research for the development of the United Nations Technology Bank flagship report on the State of Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) in the Least Developed Countries (LDCs). She also supports in the implementation of the R & I Policy Support Facility Management Mechanism as part of the to the technical assistance provided to Secretariat of the African Caribbean and Pacific Group of States for the Management of the ACP-EU Programme to strengthen Research and Innovation Capacity in ACP countries.

Moreover, she regularly contributes to the media analysis of economic forecasts for DG ECFIN by supporting in the review of the German and Austrian press coverage. In the past, she also provided value-added support to the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) governance boards tasked with delivering synthetical reports and their Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) for the next European research and innovation framework programme, Horizon Europe. 

Before joining Technopolis, she worked as a consultant in the framework of the EU programme for the Competitiveness of Enterprises and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (COSME). Having also gained experience in public consultancy firms in Germany, solidified her ambition to work at the interface between society and business.  She holds a Master’s degree in International Political Economy from the University of Warwick (UK) and a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations and International Organization from the University of Groningen (NE).  She was born and raised in Johannesburg (South Africa) and is fluent in English, German and Dutch and has working knowledge of Spanish and a fair understanding of French.
