Américo Veloso Bento
Américo Veloso Bento works as a Consultant at the Technopolis Group office in Portugal.
He has developed expertise in innovation and science policy. His contributions to various projects and initiatives at local, regional, national, and European levels have been marked by a diverse and effective application of qualitative and quantitative research methods. Utilising techniques such as interviews, surveys, statistical analysis, case studies, desk research, literature reviews, theory of change, and social network analysis, he has successfully driven meaningful results.
Recently, Américo served as a Policy Officer at the Portuguese National Innovation Agency. In this role, he worked on revising the national strategy for smart specialisation 2030, evaluating the Mobilising Agendas for Innovation in Portugal within the context of the Recovery and Resilience Facility, overseeing public funding processes for policies that enhance scientific and technological knowledge, and crafting numerous strategic advisory documents. These documents encompassed areas such as policy analysis, design, implementation, and evaluation.
Prior to joining Technopolis Group, Américo held various positions, including as an Expert on quality assessment for the Erasmus+ Portuguese National Agency, as a Science & Technology Manager at Lusofona University, and as a Policy Advisor for the Lisbon City Hall.
Américo obtained his undergraduate degree in Sociology and Master’s degree in Public Policy, from ISCTE-IUL, in Portugal. He also earned a Postgraduate degree in Management and Policies of Science and Technology. Currently, he is pursuing a PhD in Governance, Knowledge, and Innovation in the field of Economics at Universidade de Coimbra, with a thematic focus on transformative innovation policies.
Américo is a native Portuguese speaker. He is fluent in English and proficient in Spanish.
