Deepak John is an international development and policy professional with experiences in the field of sustainable energy, climate change, public policy, and governance. His specific interests are in net zero decarbonisation, energy transitions, climate mitigation & adaptation strategies and energy access. He has close to ten years of multidisciplinary work experience in local and international NGOs, policy think-tanks, private sector and development consultancy. He has applied a range of qualitative tools including desk research, participatory methods including interviews, focus group discussion, surveys, case studies, literature reviews and working knowledge of quantitative methods in statistical analysis.

Recently Deepak has contributed to research studies in energy access for developing SDG7 ecosystem framework for local communities in Nepal for IRENA-ICIMOD funded project which involved interviews with diverse stakeholders. He has produced numerous internal and external program documents at the intersection of energy innovations and livelihoods, health and built environment. He has also managed capacity building workshops and field exposures for partners for knowledge exchanges. He has been involved with Third Sector Organisations such as Caritas Switzerland, WaterAid Myanmar, Oxfam India, Centre for Budget and Governance Accountability (CBGA India) for research projects and impact evaluations.

Prior to joining Technopolis Group, Deepak worked as a programme manager in the Global SDG7 Hubs programme team, a south-south knowledge exchange platform, building momentum to scaling up energy ecosystems in Africa, South and South East Asia. He has also spent time in Myanmar, leading an Agence Française de Développement (AFD) consortium project on improving climate resilience for vulnerable communities living in precarious urban fringes. He was part of UNDP civil society working group on climate and disaster risk reduction. As a senior research associate at Institute for Sustainable Development & Governance (ISDG), India, he has been part of team that carried out research projects focusing on public budgets & finance, international aid cooperation and urban governance.

Deepak obtained his undergraduate bachelors in Computer Science & Engineering from Mahatma Gandhi University. He obtained a MBA degree from the Symbiosis International University. A postgraduate diploma in Environment and Sustainable Development (PGDESD) and a second MSc. in Energy & Climate Policy from SPRU, University of Sussex, UK. He is fluent in English, Hindi and Malayalam.
