István works at Technopolis Group with a focus on European Research and Innovation policies, such as Open Science, the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) in the new European Research Area. These also include not only intellectual contribution – research papers, policy advice, analysis – but also related management within multimillion Euro budget pan-European projects. He has experience in policy advisory on Hungarian and European levels with some African insight through the OACPS Secretariat, in innovation, youth, labour market and cohesion policies. During his work in national and international NGOs and a medium-sized enterprise, he managed medium-scale projects, fundraisings, stakeholder consultations and engagement – involving high-level decision makers from governmental, private and NGO sectors. 

He was hired by the European Commission, DG R&I, as a Blue Book Trainee which strengthened his knowledge on EU policies, operations, and objectives. He organised and conducted workshops and meetings, supported policy officers in ERA and Horizont Europe related domains (foreign interference, pan-European pension fund, researchers’ mobility, ERICs…etc.)

István has successfully applied a range of methods such as case studies, interviews, surveys, desk research, literature reviews and statistical analysis to his work and studies. Prior to joining Technopolis, István tried himself out in different fields, like trade financing at the EXIM Bank Hungary or as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)officer at ENGIE, also a Board member of the European Youth Card Association and observer to the Council of Europe. He also runs an NGO as its founding president in Hungary which aims helping policy makers and corporate decision makers to create value added and high-quality junior positions and to help the integration process of youth onto the labour market. Regarding his studies, István has a bachelor’s degree in Business and Management and an MSc in International Economy and Business with a developmental economics major. During his Bachelor he studies mostly business administration, management and focused on sustainable business operations while during his Masters, he focused on the labour market tendencies in Ethiopia and their aspects of ethnic-based rivalry and on comparative economics.
