Dominik Beckers works for Technopolis Group as an Associate Consultant after having been part of Technopolis Group’s Austrian and Baltic offices between 2017-2021. He primarily sources his drive from a multitude of highly interesting factors within the fields of urbanism, digital transformation, governance, human and economic geography, regional economic development as well as circular economy. His research interests correspond to these fields. Dominik is a confident user of interviews, surveys, literature reviews and case studies for policy analysis. In the course of his academic and professional career, he familiarised himself with quantitative research techniques.
Over the past years, Dominik has been involved in the development and execution of multiple national and EU-wide strategies, evaluations and studies. In this context, topics such as governance, urban and regional development, sustainable development, circular economy, eco-innovation and entrepreneurship have all featured highly on his agenda.
Dominik is a PhD Candidate at Tallinn University of Technology (Tallinn, EE) and Research Associate at the Business School of Edinburgh Napier University (Edinburgh, GB), FinEst Centre for Smart Cities (Tallinn, EE & Helsinki, FI), as well as Urban Innovation Policy Lab (Edinburgh, GB). In his research, Dominik focusses on the governance of digital transition processes of municipalities with the aim of becoming “smart cities”. Dominik completed his graduate degree in Human Geography at Lund University (Lund, SE) and National Taiwan University (Taipei, TW), and obtained his undergraduate diploma in Economics, Business Economics and Economic Geography from Utrecht University (Utrecht, NL) and the University of Iceland (Reykjavík, IS). Being a native German speaker, Dominik is also fluent in English and has some understanding of Dutch and French.
