Dr Janna van Belle is a consultant the Technopolis Group in Amsterdam working in the areas of science, health and education. She has more than 10 years of experience in consulting and research, with specific expertise in research methodologies and quantitative analysis.   

She has knowledge about the organisation and use of clinical trials through her involvement in a study to support the evaluation of the EU Orphan Regulation for DG Santé, as well as her involvement in a study into use of novel data sources and evidence gathering methods in drug development for EFPIA. She is experienced in the evaluation of research institutes, having been involved in the development of impact pathways as part of an impact assessment for the Integrated Carbon Observation System (ICOS) Research Infrastructure, and involvement in the evaluation of Public Research Institutes in Luxembourg for the Luxembourg Ministry of Higher Education and Research (MESR). She has an interest in science valorisation and has been working together for several years with the Oncode Institute (a large Dutch virtual research institute) combining bibliometric analysis and social network analysis to capture outcomes of research activities.  

She has a thorough grounding in both quantitative research methods and qualitative methods such as interviews, literature reviews, case studies, and stakeholder analysis. She also has extensive project management experience.   

Prior to joining Technopolis Group, she worked as research analyst at RAND Europe, in the areas of health and education. Before 2016, she worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the MRC-Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit (MRC-CSBU) in Cambridge, investigating cognitive and neural markers of healthy cognitive ageing. She holds a PhD from Utrecht University in developmental cognitive neuroscience, on brain development in child- and adolescent psychiatric disorders. She has a B.A. and MSc in cognitive psychology from Utrecht University.  

She has published widely in academic journals and has served as a peer-reviewer. Aside from being native in Dutch, she is fluent in English.
