Universities of Applied Science and Smart Cities: Opportunities in European Programmes
Date de publication : 23 septembre 2016 | langue de rapport : NL
Dutch universities of applied science (UAS) are intensifying their research activities. Smart cities is a priority theme because it matches the strengths of UAS. First, smart cities require applied research and real-life pilots, in specific regional and local settings. Second, smart cities research needs engagement of citizens, SMEs, public sector organizations (health, education, etc.) and other stakeholders.
On behalf of the Dutch research council of UAS, Technopolis Group prepared an inventory of smart cities research at Dutch UAS and explored the funding opportunities in European programmes such as Horizon 2020, INTERREG and the Urban Innovative Actions. We also looked at the European ERDF programmes that are designed and implemented at regional level (the so called EFRO programs).Recommendations were made for successful participation of UAS in European programmes.
Recommendations are related to, among other things, the research culture at UAS, critical mass, specialisation, administrative support, research facilities (such as living labs) and the combination of regional and European partners.
