Carlos Vergara is an analyst / data scientist with varied work experience industry and academia. He has extensive knowledge working with large data, especially Astronomical and Earth Observation data, for which he has developed several pipelines to process, analyse, visualize, and store large data. Part of his is background also includes Bayesian inference, mathematical modelling, regression analysis, and high-performance computing. As a member of the Dark Energy Survey and the XMM Cluster Survey, he collaborated on ten articles published in prestigious peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Prior to joining Technopolis Group, Carlos worked as a data scientist for Recycle2Trade, a digital consultancy agency supporting novel business models in the circular economy, sustainability, and waste management sectors. During this time, he worked in a feasibility study for innovative landfill gas and leachate monitoring techniques, using Earth Observation data for the development of an online observing platform. He previously did a placement at RedOptima, a machine learning and big data harnessing company, where he worked on a road network traffic model to provide transport performance benchmarks and real-time risk profiling of transportation assets.
Carlos holds a BSc in Physics and a MSc in Astrophysics from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, and a PhD degree in Astronomy from Sussex University. He is fluent in English, French and Spanish and has basic knowledge of Japanese.
