Alessandro Bello is a Principal Consultant at Technopolis Group. He has extensive experience in the area of R&I policy development and governance and more than 12 years of international experience in management, coordination and programme implementation. He has worked in more than 40 countries with several UN agencies, governments, and development agencies across the world. 

Since joining the Technopolis Group, Alessandro is leading the setting up and implementation of the R&I Policy Support Facility for the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries. 

Before Technopolis, Alessandro worked for almost a decade at UNESCO in the Science Policy and Capacity Building Program (both in the field and Headquarters). During this time, he supported developing countries, especially LDCs and SIDS, in strengthening inclusive and gender-transformative national STI systems. He was a member of different Working Groups of the UN Interagency Task Team on STI for the SDGs. 

He also collaborated on research for evidence-based policy making in gender equality and STEM with UN Women. 

His other experience includes, among others, working on researches on the approach to the UN MDGs in the MERCOSUR area, as a technical advisor for the Italian Embassy in Honduras and guest professor at the National Autonomous University of Honduras.  

Alessandro provided scientific advice to publications of the EC’s DG R&I, H2020 and Erasmus+ projects, published several papers related to several areas of R&I policy, as well as presented several papers at international conferences. 

He holds three master’s degrees in governance of policies, political science from the University of Pisa, and in international relations from the University of Bologna. Currently, he is pursuing a PhD in R&I policy at the University of Salamanca. 

He is fluent in English, Spanish and Italian and has advanced knowledge of French and knowledge of Romanian.
