Dr Billy Bryan is a consultant at Technopolis-Group, having joined in 2017. He has experience in higher education policy with an expertise in medical and doctoral education. Billy has taken a lead role in the foundation evaluation of the Global challenges Research Fund, which has involved an in depth process evaluation where he has implemented four surveys, five interview programmes and significant quantitative analysis. He made a significant contribution to the visioning work for the UKRI Research Innovation Funding Service which involved the reviewing of international research infrastructure and funding services, he specifically led the peer review strand. He works on the evaluation of the Nuffield Foundation’s Q-STEP programme, which has involved a programme of site visits and quantitative benchmarking to assess the impact of the programme. His work on the Science and Innovation Audits (SIAs wave three) involved four case studies exploring economic and social factors impacting upon R&D and chemical sectors in select international regions.
Prior to joining Technopolis Group, Billy completed his PhD in Medical Education at Sheffield Medical School and obtained his undergraduate degree in Exercise Science from Sheffield Hallam University. His PhD involved surveys, interviews and focus groups with over 300 students and teachers. He has a higher education teaching qualification (Certificate for Learning and Teaching in HE) and has taught and assessed medical students in classroom settings. As a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) he has a comprehensive understanding of teaching and leadership in higher education. He was the Postgraduate research lead for Sheffield Students’ Union’s official response to the DofE Doctoral Loans consultation (late 2016) and spoke about its implications at the Westminster HE forum launch (June 2018). He served on the sector leading Student’s Union’s trustee board, contributing to the newest 18-year strategy. He is a Governor at Stanford Junior School in Brighton.
