Technopolis in collaboration with RAND Europe undertook an independent review of the MRC-DFID Concordat, that assessed the performance, outcomes and impact of the Concordat funding that emerged between 2013 and 2018. In particular, it focused on the funding partnership between the MRC and DIFD – through exploring issues such as the added value and the effectiveness of the operational, management and governance framework put in place by the funding partners – as well as the outcomes and impact pathways of the funded portfolio of projects. The review built on a variety of research and analytical methods, such as rapid evidence assessment, document review, Researchfish and other monitoring data analyses, a large multi-stakeholder interview programme, impact case studies and field visits to beneficiary site locations in Kenya, Malawi, Uganda and the Gambia. The findings and recommendations of the review are to provide input into the design and implementation of the next funding period of the Concordat.
