Evaluation of collaborative research in the field of Basic Scientific Research in natural Sciences

Together with Fraunhofer, Technopolis evaluated the 500m€ BMBF programme to fund joint research projects at large-scale research infrastructures.
The evaluation consisted firstly of an ex-post evaluation covering the programs’ impact from 2006 to 2014, analyzing more than 1000 projects in four pillars (Hadron and nuclear physics, elementary particles, condensed matter & astrophysics).
Secondly, an ex-ante evaluation was conducted based on the results of the completed ex-post evaluation. In addition to trend analyses for the scientific subareas, the evaluation team organized an expert audit involving leading scientists. The comparison with other countries was possible through international case studies. The project was carried out in a consortium with Fraunhofer IMW and INT.
