Christian Aboua is a research economist who joined the Technopolis Group as a senior consultant in public innovation policies in 2023 (a subsidiary based in Africa, Ivory Coast). He has over ten years of economic research experience. He has demonstrated expertise in productivity analysis and resource allocation, competitiveness analysis of agricultural industries and value chains, trade and industrial policy analysis, and evaluation of development policies, projects, and programs. His research interests include agriculture, fisheries, energy, natural resources, climate change, and industrial development.

At Technopolis, he works on several projects covering a wide range of sectors: research and innovation policies, higher education, health, digital transformation, entrepreneurship, development of SMEs, industries, agriculture, green economy and international cooperation. He provides cross-cutting support in the conduct of policy assessments, sector and technical studies, strategic support projects and advice for the main clients.

Christian previously worked as a researcher-consultant at the CIRES Economic Policy Analysis Unit (CAPEC), where he conducted several economic studies and research projects to advise public and private decision-makers. During this time, he learned how to prepare technical and financial proposals, research protocols, quantitative and qualitative data collection, and quantitative analyses (statistics and econometrics). The work done focused on structural transformation, business competitiveness, assessing tax incentive measures for businesses, food and nutritional security, sector diagnosis, agricultural sector analysis, and value chain analysis. He recently completed postdoctoral research on the just energy transition in the informal food and manufacturing sectors with the United Nations University Institute for Natural Resources.

Christian has had to work as a consultant for a number of international organizations and research institutes, including the World Food Programme, the United Nations Environment Programme, the World Bank, the African Center for Economic Transformation, and the German Institute for Development Cooperation Evaluation.

Christian holds a PhD in Economics from Felix Houphouët-Boigny University’s Interuniversity Third Cycle Program in Economics in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. He studied Industrial Economics. He works in both French and English.
