Martin Wain is a Senior Consultant at Technopolis with fifteen years of policy and evaluation experience in economic development and research and innovation. Martin has conducted process and impact evaluations, policy studies and strategic support projects at the local, regional, national, and international levels. Martin is an experienced researcher, trained in various qualitative and quantitative methods such as interviews, focus groups, surveys, network analysis, desk research, literature reviews and case studies. Martin is a regional studies specialist, and his particular interests are knowledge exchange and collaboration, R&D, intellectual property and standards, research infrastructures, entrepreneurial education, and organisations and networks. 

Martin’s recent and current work encompasses policy, support and co-ordination for science, technology, research and innovation, higher education, economic development and capacity development. He has worked in Europe, Africa and Asia, and is experienced with research infrastructures and large research-funding programmes, including the European Framework Programmes. 

Prior to joining Technopolis, Martin worked as a Senior Analyst supporting the development of regional innovation strategies for Greater Manchester, northern England. Martin holds an MSc in Local and Regional Economic Development from the University of Dundee and has recently submitted his PhD thesis on sub-national innovation policy and governance networks, supervised by Prof. Jakob Edler, Professor of Innovation Policy and Strategy at AMBS Manchester Institute of Innovation Research and Executive Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI. He is a native English speaker, and has a working knowledge of Russian.
