Marisa Amato is a Consultant at Technopolis Group in the Health and Life Sciences Team. She has a background in Biochemistry, Molecular Genetics and Neuroscience. She has experience in clinical and molecular research, working closely with ME/CFS and Fibromyalgia patients using transcriptomics, Immunology and MRI. She is trained in a range of research methods, such as interviews, surveys, literature reviews and statistical analysis, with extensive knowledge and experience in project management, business development, business relationship management, stakeholder mapping and consultation.

Marisa has over 10 years of public engagement and communication experience. Prior to joining Technopolis, Marisa managed projects and events at a charity called STEM Sussex, providing public engagement and STEM learning opportunities to schools in Sussex, followed by the evaluation and impact assessment of these engagement and communication activities. She was also a Business Analyst for a fashion technology company, which involved interviewing end users and SaaS product testing to improve end-user experience. In addition, Marisa has worked with ITV on a short documentary related to her PhD and the research in ME/CFS and Fibromyalgia patients.

Marisa has an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from Imperial College London, a Master’s degree in Genetic Manipulations and Molecular Cell Biology from the University of Sussex, and subsequently in the process of completing her PhD in Clinical Neuroscience and Molecular Genetics from the Brighton and Sussex Medical School, which works closely with the Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust (Thesis: Using transcriptomics, MRI and immunology to investigate the effects of mild inflammation in ME/CFS and Fibromyalgia). She is fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese, with some basic knowledge of Italian.
