Jan Stede is Senior Consultant in the Berlin office of Technopolis Group, leading the green economy field of Technopolis Germany and working as scientific advisor for the German government’s Council of Experts on Climate Change (Expertenrat für Klimafragen). He has more than five years of professional experience as an applied empirical economist in research and policy consulting on energy economics and climate change mitigation. In addition to his strong analytical skills, he applies statistical and econometric methods, as well as qualitative methods such as expert interviews and surveys.
Jan managed and contributed to numerous projects for EU and national public sector clients, including the lead study on the possibility to set up a carbon border adjustment mechanism (CBAM) for DG TAXUD, a study on options for a per-capita rebate of revenues from CO2 pricing for the German Federal Ministry of Finance (BMF), and the German Sustainable Finance Research Platform. In addition to his work for the Council of Experts on Climate Change, he currently leads a project on energy efficiency and CO2 emissions in buildings, as well as a project on the market uptake of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF).
Before joining Technopolis Group, Jan worked as Senior Research Associate in the Climate Policy department of the applied economics research institute DIW Berlin. He holds a PhD in Economics from the DIW Graduate Center and TU Berlin. Jan studied Industrial and Network Economics at the TU Berlin and the University of Naples Federico II, and Economics at the University of Cologne. Jan’s interests include electricity markets, emissions trading systems and renewable energy, energy efficiency in industry and buildings, demand response, sustainable finance, and the social impacts of the energy transition. He is fluent in German, English and Italian.
