Latvia – Research Assessment Exercise: Summary report

This project followed up a CREST policy mix peer review exercise in Latvia, which Technopolis organised in 2009/10. It updated that report, which discusses issues and development needs in the Latvian research and innovation system. However, the largest component of this project was a research assessment exercise, covering some 150 research groups. Technopolis designed the methods, provided bibliometric indicators and worked with six peer review panels to assess the quality, relevance and potential of the work of the research groups. The result was a group-by-group analysis of performance, which the Ministry has used in deciding about the future structure of institutional research funding in the university and institute sector.
