Dr. Martijn Poel is deputy director of the Amsterdam office of Technopolis Group.
He has 18 years of experience in policy research and consulting. He is an expert in ICT-driven innovation and works on innovation policy, high-tech clusters, creative industries and research facilities.
Martijn manages evaluation studies as well as prospective (technology) studies and policy development processes.
Examples of recent and current assignments include: using big data for policy analysis (EC, DG Connect and DG RTD), game-changing technologies and their impact on skills and jobs (Eurofound), servitisation by SMEs (EC, DG GROW), evaluation of ICT innovation policy (Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs), regional clusters for smart industry (the regional development agency for the Dutch Province of Brabant), future needs for research infrastructures in Ireland (Irish Department for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation), smart cities research by Dutch universities of applied science (Regieorgaan SIA), evaluation of the FP7 theme on Nanotech, Materials and Production Technologies, including the PPPs for Energy-efficient Buildings, Factories of the Future and Green Cars (EC, DG RTD) and the European Service Innovation Center (EC, DG GROW).
In 2013, he successfully defended his PhD at the Delft University of Technology. Prior to joining Technopolis Group, Martijn worked at TNO, the Dutch organisation for applied scientific knowledge. He is fluent in Dutch and English and has a basic understanding of German.
