Marika De Scalzi contributes to evaluations and studies carried out for international, European and national public bodies, applying a range of research methods including interviews, focus groups, surveys, case studies and literature reviews. She has a particular knowledge of medical research, healthcare and higher education; further areas of interest are communication and employment policies.
Marika has worked on a study aimed at understanding the value of UK medical research to EU science and health, which was commissioned by a consortium that included the Medical Research Council and the Academy of Medical Sciences. She is currently contributing to the evaluation of the NHS Cancer Vanguard, for which, an understanding of the UK national healthcare environment is required, and includes the involvement of patients in the evaluation process. She has also recently contributed to a number of ex ante evaluations for the European Commission’s DG Justice and Consumers.
Prior to joining Technopolis Group, Marika was engaged by Sussex University as a teacher and researcher in the School of Psychology. Previously, she worked at YKK Europe Ltd, London, a Japanese multi-national company where she was responsible for creating a centralised Corporate Communication Department for branches in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
Marika has a flexible mindset and believes in lifelong learning; she has excellent inter-personal skills and undertakes projects with the investigative approach and evidence-based methodology derived from her training as an Experimental Psychologist. Marika has a Laurea in Oriental Studies (Distinction/Summa cum laude) from Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, Italy. She obtained a Master of Science and a PhD in Experimental Psychology from Sussex University, UK. She speaks English, Italian (mother-tongue) and Japanese.
