Marika De Scalzi is a consultant contributing to evaluations and research studies carried out for national and international public bodies, such as the UK’s NHS, BEIS, the Department for International Development, the British Academy and the European Commission. Marika has excellent inter-personal skills and undertakes projects with the investigative approach and evidence-based methodology derived from her training as an Experimental Psychologist. She has extensively applied a range of methods, such as literature reviews, case studies, desk research, interviews and focus groups.
Marika’s specific expertise is in ageing and dementia. She has been involved in medical research and healthcare projects, such as a study aiming to understand the value of UK medical research to EU science and health, and the evaluation of the NHS Cancer Vanguard. Marika has also experience in higher education, communication and academic research. For example, she contributed to a number of ex ante evaluations for the EC’s DG Justice and Consumers in view of their communication campaigns and is currently working on an evaluation of a higher education program aiming at bringing improvement to the higher education systems in African and Middle Eastern countries.
Prior to joining Technopolis Group, Marika worked at Sussex University as a teacher and researcher in the School of Psychology. Previously, she worked at YKK Europe Ltd, London, a Japanese multi-national company where she was responsible for centralising corporate communications for branches in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
Marika has a Laurea in Oriental Studies (Distinction) from Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, Italy. She obtained a Master of Science and a PhD in Experimental Psychology from Sussex University, UK. She speaks English, Italian (mother-tongue) and Japanese.
