Maarten Koopmans, MA, is a consultant at Technopolis Group, based in Amsterdam. He has specialised in EU policy processes and EU economic and trade policy, with a particular interest in international cooperation for development and the green economy. Through his research, he has gained experience with a range of methods such as network analysis, interviews, surveys, case studies and desk research.
Prior to joining Technopolis Group, Maarten worked in several international organisations in Geneva, Barcelona, and Brussels. He worked at the Permanent Representation of the Netherlands to the United Nations and the World Trade Organization. There, he reported on multilateral meetings on the issues of environment, agriculture, fisheries and issues for least developed countries. He has also worked at the Union for the Mediterranean, with representatives of the Middle East and North Africa region and the EU, to implement regional labour market projects for women and youth in the Mediterranean region. In 2017, he worked at DG NEAR, the European Commission, where he reported on the external affairs committee of the European Parliament and organised workshops for international organisations, such as the World Bank, on the implementation of EU projects.
He studied European affairs at the University of Amsterdam, during which, he focused his research on the global role of the EU and the development of its international partnerships.
