Alasdair Reid
Alasdair Reid joined Technopolis Group in February 2004 and is responsible for the Brussels and Tallinn offices. He has more than seventeen years of experience in public policy research in the field of regional economic and enterprise development policies and innovation systems and strategies.
During his career, he has provided advice and support to the European Commission, international organisations (OECD, World Bank) and national and regional governments and agencies throughout the European Union and in third countries (including Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Macedonia, Serbia, South Africa and Turkey). In particular, Alasdair has managed, since 2004, the two main EU research and innovation policy-benchmarking platforms (the European Trend Chart on Innovation and ERAWATCH). He is general manager, since February 2005, of the ERAWATCH Network (a not-for-profit organisation) that brings together some 70 organisations from over 40 European countries and most of the leading industrialised or emerging nations. He has published a number of articles in peer reviewed journals and book chapters notably focusing on the design and evaluation of regional development and innovation policies and the links with economic trends.
Alasdair is an economist, holding a BA (Honours) from Heriot-Watt University (Edinburgh, 1988) and an MA in Economics from the University of Louvain-la-Neuve (UCL, Belgium, 1993). Prior to joining Technopolis he worked for a Brussels-based policy think thank (C&L Belmont), as a research fellow at the UCL and then for ADE S.A. (Belgium) leading multi-country regional and innovation policy projects.
Alasdair is fluently bilingual (English, French), has a good grasp of Spanish and basic Estonian.
